Four Spring Student-Athletes Honored By USCAA For Academics

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- A total of four Penn State Brandywine spring student-athletes were named to the USCAA National Academic Teams recently as sophomores Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) earned spots on the softball team and senior Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) and sophomore Anthony Bianchini (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) claimed the distinction for the baseball team.

The USCAA National Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have amassed a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 prior to the spring semester and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Osenbach, who garnered his third USCAA National Academic Team award, graduated from Penn State in May with a degree in information sciences and technology after amassing a grade point average of 3.57. A four-time PSUAC All-Academic Team honoree, Osenbach earned academic all-district laurels from Capital One/CoSIDA this spring, the third Brandywine student-athlete to claim the award.

For the fourth-straight year, Osenbach, the PSUAC Hitter of the Year, was named First Team All-PSUAC. He also was selected as a USCAA All-American for the third time, including his second-straight first team nod. Osenbach completed his 138-game career with 178 hits and 122 runs batted in.

Bianchini, who owns a 3.70 GPA as a marketing major, also earned PSUAC All-Academic honors for the second-straight year. In 28 games this spring, he collected 15 runs scored, 11 RBI and nine stolen bases.

Foeldes posted a 4.0 GPA during her sophomore year and owns a 3.97 grade point average overall. Also a two-time PSUAC All-Academic selection, Foeldes has collected 52 hits and 41 RBI in 78 career games. She recorded one home run, 20 runs batted in and a .291 batting average this spring.

DeStefano has accumulated a 3.50 GPA as a psychology major at Brandywine and also earned her PSUAC All-Academic accolades for the second year in a row. The 2015 PSUAC Pitcher of the Year, DeStefano went 5-5 in 11 starts in the circle this spring, while also batting .343 with one home run and 23 RBI in 38 games overall.
