Brandywine Ranked 10th In 2018-19 USCAA President’s Cup

MEDIA, Pa. -- The United States Collegiate Athletic Association released the final results of its first-ever President's Cup, ranking the highest-achieving athletic department in terms of academics, for the 2018-19 year recently. Penn State Brandywine finished 10th among the 85 member institutions in the USCAA.

The President's Cup measures three factors: overall department grade-point average, team grade-point averages and number of student-athletes selected to USCAA National Academic Teams. Once those numbers have been totaled, each institution is ranked in each category against all other members and the instutions average rank becomes its final score.

Brandywine's average rank in the three fields was 15.67, placing the department 10th overall. A total of seven Penn State University Athletic Conference campuses stood in the top 20 of the final standings.

During the 2018-19 academic year, 12 of Brandywine's 16 varsity teams amassed a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, led by the women's cross country (3.47), women's tennis (3.38) and men's cross country (3.31) squads. As a department, Brandywine's more-than 160 student-athletes produced a GPA of 2.98.

Seventeen Lions received USCAA National Academic Awards during the year and more than 60 percent of Brandywine student-athletes earned an academic honor at the campus, conference or national level in 2018-19.

Christendom College claimed the first-ever USCAA President's Cup with a final score of 2.33.
