USCAA Announces Fall And Winter National Academic Awards; Brandywine Collects 11 Honors

NORFOLK, Va.  – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association revealed its National Academic Team awards for fall and winter sports on Monday and 11 Penn State Brandywine student-athletes were among the more than 200 honored.

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 entering the spring semester and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Men's soccer led the way for Brandywine as four sophomores all earned their first USCAA academic accolade. Nathan Bowman (York, Pa./York Suburban), Evan Majercak (Wayne, Pa./Radnor), Nate McCourt (West Chester, Pa./Salesianum) and Luke Segner (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) were the recipients for the four-time defending PSUAC champion Lions.

Brandywine women's basketball, women's soccer and volleyball each had two student-athletes honored.

Ally Giannakarios (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) landed her third award in women's basketball, while Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) received recognition in both women's basketball and volleyball. Sophomores Rebecca Gonzalez (Clearwater, Fla./Washburn Academy), Amanda Bernens (Newark, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and Nicole Zuppo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) all claimed their first honors.

Victor Ficarra (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) represented the men's basketball team and collected his fourth USCAA honor after earning three previously as a member of the men's tennis squad.

Overall, more than 120 student-athletes from the Penn State University Athletic Conference were among the honorees on the USCAA National Academic Team.
