Gorgone Powers Offense In Rout Of Wilkes Barre

WILKES BARRE, Pennsylvania -- John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) belted three home runs as the Penn State Brandywine baseball team routed Penn State Wilkes Barre 26-5 in five innings on Saturday afternoon.

Gorgone drove in six runs, while scoring five and upping his team-leading home run total to five.

Anthony Bianchini (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) drove in five runs, while Pat O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) and Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) both crossed home three times.

Gorgone, Bianchini, Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant), Josh Dellipriscoli (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) all recorded two-hit performances. Brandywine needed just 14 hits to score its 26 runs as Wilkes Barre committed nine errors.

Gorgone's first-inning grand slam gave Brandywine a five-run lead and Dellipriscoli later added an RBI double to up Brandywine's advantage to six.

Hits by Dellipriscoli, Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) and Gabe Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) all scored runs in the second, while Gorgone tacked on his second long ball of the game.

Scott-Norris and Skahill adding run-scoring hits in the fourth and Bianchini's three-run double highlighted a six-run fifth frame.

Andrew Karahalis (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) upped his record to 4-1 on the mound after striking out five in 5.0 innings of work.

Brandywine (17-13, 11-3 PSUAC) hosts a doubleheader against Penn State Scranton on Sunday afternoon in Media. The team will honor its five seniors prior to game one.
