Fisher Rallies Past Brandywine In Season Opener

ASTON, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine built a 5-0 lead after four innings, but Fisher College rallied, scoring six times in the ninth inning to complete its comeback and knock off the Lions 10-6 in Brandywine's baseball season opener on Saturday.

Brandywine got on the board in the second inning when Pat Tackney's (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) bases-loaded, infield single scored Kevin Dougherty (West Chester, Pa./Rustin).

The Lions tacked on four more runs in the fourth as Tackney again delivered with the bases loaded, tripling in three runs. Two batters later, Tackney scored on Tom Osenbach's (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) double, giving Brandywine a 5-0 lead.

Fisher chipped away at the deficit scoring single runs in the fifth and seventh, sandwiched around a pair of scores in the sixth to make the score 5-4.

Doug Medrano's (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) RBI single in the eighth tacked on an insurance run for Brandywine; however, Fisher answered with six runs during its final at-bat, three of which were unearned, and scored its first win of the season.

Tackney delivered two hits and four RBI, while Osenbach went 3-for-5 at the plate. Steve Trainor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Dougherty both added a pair of hits.

Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Pa./St. George's Tech) took the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings of relief. Brian Bosco (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) pitched the first five innings, striking out four, while allowing one run on four hits.

Brandywine and Fisher complete the three-game series Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 am.
