Baseball Downed By Grace In Spring Break Opener

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Grace College scored seven runs during the first inning and never looked back during a 13-2, seven-inning victory over the Penn State Brandywine baseball team in the Lions' Spring Break opener at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.

Grace sent 11 batters to the plate during its seven-run first and added two runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Frank Rocchio homered and drove in three runs to lead the Lancers at the plate.

Brandywine plated single runs in the second and fifth innings as Steve Trainor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) singled in John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) and Dave DiMeglio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) crossed home on Anthony Bianchini's (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) base hit after leading off the fifth with a triple.

Gorgone recorded two hits and stole a base to lead Brandywine offensively. Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) tossed the final four innings on the mound, allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out three, after relieving Frank Newman (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), who took the loss.

Brandywine (0-4) looks to bounce back Saturday night against Trinity International at 7:00 pm.
