Lions Fall Short Against Ursinus

MEDIA, Pa. --  Penn State Brandywine was held off the scoreboard until the ninth inning and suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Ursinus on Friday afternoon.

The Lions trailed 4-0 entering their final at-bat, but plated a pair of two-out runs when Anthony Bianchini (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) blasted a home run, his first of the season, over the left field fence. Doug Medrano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) then reached on an error, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Ursinus pitcher Matt Radwanski recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Radwanski picked up his first save after tossing the final 2 2/3 innings in relief of starter David Drea. Drea held Brandywine off the scoreboard during his 6 1/3 innings on the mound and struck out four.

Brian Bosco (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) nearly matched Drea on the mound for Brandywine, but suffered the loss. Bosco pitched seven strong innings, striking out three, while allowing four runs (three earned). Dave DiMeglio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) fired a pair of hitless frames in relief of Bosco.

Dan McMenamin (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) recorded two of Brandywine's six hits, while C.J. Diana tallied two hits and drove in a pair for the Bears.

Ursinus took a 2-0 lead after two innings and added insurance in the seventh as Diana singled in a run and another Bear crossed the plate following a groundout.

The Lions (4-12) open conference play Monday with a doubleheader at Penn State Scranton.
