Trainor Named USCAA Hitter Of The Week; Forwood Earns PSUAC Pitching Honor

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior designated hitter Steve Trainor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was selected as the hitter of the week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Penn State University Athletic Conference, while junior right-hander Nate Forwood (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) was named PSUAC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Brandywine went 6-0 last week against PSUAC competition, sweeping Penn State York, Greater Allegheny and Beaver.

Trainor batted .526 during the week, collecting 10 hits, including a pair of three-hit games against Penn State Beaver on Sunday. He added three more hits in game one of a doubleheader sweep at Penn State Hazleton yesterday for his third-straight, three-hit performance. He also knocked in seven runs and scored six times.

Trainor has hits in each of his last six games and is batting .684 over that span to raise his season batting average to .342, good for second on the team. In 29 games this spring, he has collected 15 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Forwood went 1-0 with two saves in three relief appearances last week. He was the winning pitcher in game one against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, tossing the final two innings of a 7-4, extra-inning triumph, and then came in to close out Brandywine's 7-5 victory in the nightcap. Forwood also picked up a save in Brandywine's 3-0, mid-week win against Penn State York.

In 13 1/3 innings this season, Forwood has not allowed an earned run and has limited opposing hitters to a .204 batting average. He owns a league-leading three saves, while carrying a 10-inning scoreless streak into Brandywine's final nine regular-season games.

Brandywine hosts Williamson Trade School Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
