MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine baseball team picked up a pair of victories during its final home games of the season on Sunday afternoon, topping Penn State Fayette 10-0 in game one and 6-1 in the nightcap.
Brian Bosco (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) fired a four-hit shutout in game one to move his record to 5-2. He blanked Fayette over five innings, while striking out six, including the 100th strikeout of his career during the first inning.
Brandywine tallied 10 hits and took advantage of four errors, along with five batters hit by pitches and five walks issued by Fayette starter Jonathan Krall.
Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian), Kevin Dougherty (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) and Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) all recorded two hits and scored twice, while Pat Tackney (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) collected two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Dougherty's RBI single gave Brandywine a 2-0 lead after one inning and the Lions added three more in the third, including a run-scoring single from Tackney. The Lions padded their lead with three more runs in the fourth and walked off with the win after scoring twice in the fifth.
Brandywine grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Tackney singled in a pair and Steve Trainor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Lions doubled the lead to six when Tommy Crumlish doubled in John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) and, two batters later, T.J. Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) connected on a single to center that plated a pair.
Troy Mucchetti brought a no-hitter into the fifth inning before it was broken up by a leadoff single; however, that runner was quickly erased by a double play. Mucchetti finished off his fourth victory of the season by striking out two and limiting Fayette to one earned run on four hits.
Tackney added two more hits in game two, while Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and Anthony Bianchini (Long Island, N.Y./Long Beach) both scored two runs.
Brandywine (18-18, 13-5 PSUAC) closes out the regular season Monday at Penn State Scranton.
