Baseball Closes Out Regular Season At Scranton

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team finished its regular season by splitting a doubleheader at Penn State Scranton on Monday afternoon. The Lions won game one 11-1 in six innings, but dropped game two by a 4-2 count.

Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) delivered a three-run triple to put Brandywine in front 3-0 after one inning and an RBI single from Dan McMenamin (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) added one run to the lead one frame later.

Brandywine tacked on three unearned runs in the third before Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) laced a two-run home run over the left field fence in the fourth. A run-scoring triple from Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) and RBI groundout by Steve Patterson (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) completed the scoring in the sixth inning.

Frank Newman (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) picked up his third win after holding Scranton hitless for three innings, while striking out three. Nate Forwood (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) tossed a scoreless inning in relief and added anothe 1 1/3 frames of scoreless relief in game two.

Scranton scored all four runs during the third inning of game two, with three of those scores coming on two home runs.

Masi's RBI triple put Brandywine on the board in the fourth and T.J. Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) followed with a run-scoring single, but the Lions would get no closer.

Brandywine begins the PSUAC Tournament at Showers Field in DuBois, Pa., on Friday. Opponent and game time are still to be determined.
