Billy Haines Steps Down As Head Baseball Coach

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine Head Baseball Coach Billy Haines announced his resignation from the position on Friday.

Haines is stepping down after four years as head coach in order to commit to more time spent with his wife, Shannon, and the couple's young sons, Liam and Logan, while also focusing on his career as a school counselor in the Harrisburg Area School District.

"I would like to thank Coach Haines for his committment to the program over the last decade, both as a player and coach as he has been an integral part of our team's success on the playing field and in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Jim Gastner. "I wish Coach Haines and his family nothing but the best in their future endeavors."

During his four years as head coach, Haines comprised a record of 80-69, including a 60-18 mark against PSUAC opponents. Under his watch, nine student-athletes were named all-American by the USCAA and 17 were selected to PSUAC all-conference teams. Haines, who was selected as the league's coach of the year following his first season in 2013, also guided two PSUAC players of the year and one PSUAC pitcher of the year.

Haines' squads also performed well in the classroom as eight student-athletes earned USCAA National Academic Team status and during the last two seasons, 21 members of the team claimed PSUAC All-Academic Team accolades.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time spent as head coach at Penn State Brandywine. From the moment I came back to Brandywine as an assistant, it was my dream to lead the baseball program and for the last four years, I've been able to live that dream. My love and passion for the baseball team and student-athletes will never fade," Haines said.

"This was not an easy decision for me and it certainly was not made in a terse manner. After discussing it with my wife and taking some time to think it over during the past few weeks, I know this is the right decision for my family and career," added Haines.

Haines earned his bachelor's degree in human development and family studies from Brandywine, while also competing as a member of the baseball team before beginning his coaching career in 2004. Haines parlayed his four-year assistant coaching stint at Brandywine into coaching jobs at Glen Mills High School and Interboro High School before returning to his alma mater in 2013 as head coach.

A search for Haines' replacement is currently underway.
