Brandywine, Wilkes Barre Swap Lopsided Victories

ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine rolled to a 13-1, five inning victory in game one, but Penn State Wilkes Barre countered by winning the nightcap by a 9-2 count on Monday night in Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball at Maple Zone.

In game one, Brandywine put nine runs on the board in the first inning and never was challenged the rest of the way. Matt Masi's (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) three-run home run, his sixth of the season, highlighted the nine-run outburst, which saw Brandywine send 14 batters to the plate despite recording only three hits.

The Lions added three more hits in the third inning, tacking four more runs.

Masi reached base twice and knocked in four runs overall, while Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) recorded a pair of hits and Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) knocked in two runs.

Kevin Sessa (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) held Wilkes Barre without a run over 4.0 innings to claim his third victory of the season. He fanned three and allowed just two hits.

Wilkes Barre, playing for the first time this season on Monday night, broke game two open by tallying five runs during the third inning to establish an 8-0 edge.

Jordan Choman limited Brandywine to four hits in 5.1 innings to earn the win for Wilkes Barre, while Matt Staiber (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) suffered his first loss for Brandywine after allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits in 2.2 innings.

Brandywine received its two runs when Anthony Polanco (Long Island, N.Y./West Babylon) recorded a two-run pinch hit single in the fifth inning. The Lions also placed two runners on base in during the third, fourth and sixth innings, but came up empty during each frame.

Brandywine (7-12, 3-1 PSUAC) travels to Eastern University for a 4:00 pm non-conference game on Wednesday.
