Brandywine Downed At Eastern

MEDIA, Pa. -- Eastern University scored in only three-of-eight innings, but made those innings count as the Eagles produced a 22-7 victory over the Penn State Brandywine baseball team on Tuesday afternoon.

Eastern, which collected 16 hits and took advantage of four Brandywine errors, scored six times during the third inning to break the game open.

The Lions got two runs back in the fifth as T.J. Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Robert Spitaletta (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) recorded back-to-back singles and both came around to score on a double from Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest).

However, Eastern answered with nine runs during the bottom of the fifth and tacked on seven more one frame later to take control of the contest.

Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and Brett Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) tallied run-scoring hits in the sixth, while Wiest added a three-run double in the eighth inning to account for Brandywine's final five scores of the day.

Wiest went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Skahill and Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) both tallied a pair of hits.

Brandywine (10-13, 6-1 PSUAC) travels to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm game.
