Masi Delivers Walk-Off Single; Brandywine Tops York 4-3

ASTON, Pa. -- Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) delivered the game-winning RBI single during the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the Penn State Brandywine baseball team to a 4-3 Penn State University Athletic Conference victory over Penn State York on Thursday night.

Masi's bases-loaded liner to center pushed Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) across home with the winning run to lift Brandywine's conference record to 7-2. Skahill led off the inning with a base hit through the right side and moved to third following back-to-back bunt singles from Brett Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner).

Brandywine tallied four of its 11 hits on the night during the ninth inning. Crumlish recorded a pair of hits, while Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum) went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lions struck for their first three runs during the third inning as Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown), Brendan Ricciardi (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Buoni connected for consecutive run-scoring singles with two outs.

York trimmed the 3-1 deficit in half with a run in the fourth and then tied the game on Brady Lefever's RBI single in the eighth, but Buoni prevented the further damage by throwing out the go-ahead run at the plate from left field.

Kevin Sessa (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) worked two innings of scoreless relief to claim his conference-leading fifth win of the season. He struck out one and allowed three hits. Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) went the first seven innings on the hill, scattering 11 hits, while yielding three runs and fanning one.

Brandywine (11-14, 7-2 PSUAC) and York conclude the three-game season series on Saturday with a doubleheader at York beginning at 2:00 pm.
