Brandywine Falls At McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- McDaniel College scored all 11 of its runs during the first five innings to claim an 11-3 victory over the Penn State Brandywine baseball team on Wednesday afternoon.

The Green Terror scored in each of their first five at-bats, plating single runs in the first and fifth innings, while pushing across three runs during the second, third and fourth frames.

Kevin Sessa (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was saddled with the loss on the mound after allowing four earned runs during the first three innings. Chris Edwards (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) fired a pair of scoreless frames in relief, while Derek Cappadoccia (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains) blanked McDaniel during his inning of work.

Tom Donahue (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) paced the Lions at the plate as Donahue went 3-for-4, scored a run and stole a base and Wright reached base in all four plate appearances. He tallied two singles and was issued a pair of bases on balls. Brandywine collected 11 hits overall.

Five of Brandywine's base hits came during the third inning when the Lions pushed two runs across. Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) doubled and scored on Ben Mutz's (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) two-out single. After a base hit from Donahue, Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) plated Mutz with a single.

The Lions added their final run in the eighth when Donahue led off with a single and later came around to score on a double-play groundout.

Brandywine (5-6) looks to bounce back Saturday night when it hosts Central Penn College at 6:00 pm at Maple Zone.
