Michaels Fires Gem; Brandywine Rolls Over Central Penn

ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior right-hander Tyler Michaels (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) fired a two-hit shutout as the Lions ran away from Central Penn, winning 17-0 on Saturday night at Maple Zone.

Michaels, who threw 66 of his 102 pitches for strikes during his seven-inning outing, struck out a career-high 12 batters, while limiting Central Penn to a pair of singles. His 12 strikeouts are the most by a Brandywine pitcher since Chris Campli also fanned 12 in 2007 and believed to be tied for the second-highest single-game total in school history.

Michaels struck out at least one Knight during every inning and fanned the side during his final frame to even his record at 1-1 on the season.

At the plate, Sean Donahue (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Tom Donahue (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) both went 2-for-3 and each swiped a pair of bases. Tom Donahue scored three runs, while Dalton Palmer (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) and Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) both scored two runs. The Lions tallied nine hits from seven different players overall.

Brandywine took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning before busting the game open by scoring 11 runs, all with two outs. Aided by six Knight errors, Brandywine sent 16 batters to the plate during the frame. The Lions capped the scoring by adding four more runs in the seventh.

Brandywine (6-6) and Central Penn finish out the three-game weekend series Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at noon.
