Brandywine Bats Silenced At Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine suffered a pair of shutout losses at Penn State Schuylkill, falling by scores of 5-0 and 4-0 during a Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 5, Penn State Brandywine 0

Brandywine's best scoring chance of the day came in the fifth inning of game one when the Lions started the frame with three consecutive singles to load the bases; however, Schuylkill pitcher Jake Leininger worked out of trouble by retiring the next three hitters to escape the inning unscathed.

Brandywine tallied six hits with two coming off the bat of Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).

Three Brandywine pitchers limited Schuylkill to six hits, but the hosts scored twice with two outs in the third and added three more runs one frame later to claim the victory. Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out three in 3.1 innings. Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) fired 1.2 scoreless innings, while Chris Edwards (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) retired the side in order in the sixth.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 4, Penn State Brandywine 0

Schuylkill scored four unearned runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two Brandywine errors, for all of the scoring in game two as both starting pitchers limited the opposition to three hits.

Kevin Sessa (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), despite holding Schuylkill to three singles and only one hit after the first inning, received the loss on the mound. Sessa fired a complete game, striking out three.

Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) all recorded a hit for Brandywine.

Brandywine (9-8, 1-2 PSUAC) begins a three-game series against Penn State Wilkes-Barre Friday night at Maple Zone at 7:00 pm.
