USCAA Tabs Hurley As Hitter Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The United States Collegiate Athletic Association selected Penn State Brandywine freshman Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) as its hitter of the week on Tuesday.

Hurley came up big for the Lions in a victory on Sunday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, blasting a pair of home runs, including a game-winning, three-run shot in the top of the eighth inning. One frame earlier, he hit the first long ball of his college career, a solo home run. The pair of homers were a part of a career-best four-hit performance.

Overall for the week, Hurley batted .316 (6-19) with five RBI and six runs scored.

In 20 games this spring, Hurley is the Lions' leader with 14 RBI and nine extra-base hits, tying him for 12th in the USCAA. He has totaled 16 hits and 14 runs scored, while stealing eight bases in as many attempts.

Brandywine (10-10, 2-4 PSUAC) hosts Eastern University Wednesday night at 7:00 pm at Maple Zone.
