Brandywine Falls At Centenary

FLEMINGTON, N.J. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Centenary University, falling by scores of 8-1 and 13-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

Game One: Centenary 8, Penn State Brandywine 1

The Cyclones scored three runs in the first inning and put a two spot on the board in the second to build an early 5-0 lead and take control of the game.

After allowing the early runs, Nick Petrella (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) settled in, going five innings in total, the final three of which were scoreless. Petrella struck out three and surrendered six hits.

Brandywine put its run on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) was issued a two-out walk and a Centenary error allowed Wright to move to third, while extending the inning. Sean Donahue's (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) infield single scored Wright to make the count 5-1. The Cyclones tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Wright reached base during all three of his plate appearances, tallying two of Brandywine's six hits overall.

Game Two: Centenary 13, Penn State Brandywine 4

An 11-run third inning was the difference in game two as the Cyclones sent 16 men to the plate, collecting eight hits, while taking advantage of two Brandywine errors and a pair of walks.

After Centenary scored single runs during the first two innings, Brandywine evened the score at 2-2 in the third. Tom Donahue (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) walked, Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) doubled and both came around to score on a two-base hit by Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan).

An error allowed Brandywine's third run to score in the sixth, while Sean Brady (Great Valley, Pa./Great Valley) recorded an RBI single in the seventh, scoring Wright.

Hayden Altimari (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony's Prep) produced a two-hit game for Brandywine, which had eight knocks overall. Nick Bromley (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief after getting the final out of game one. He struck out three and limited Centenary to a pair of hits.

Brandywine (12-14, 4-5 PSUAC) opens a three-game series with Penn State York Thursday night at 5:00 pm at Maple Zone.
