Brandywine Takes Third At PSUAC Tournament

DUBOIS, Pa. – Penn State Wilkes-Barre scored twice during the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a 5-4 victory over Penn State Brandywine Monday morning in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Tournament. The loss ended Brandywine's season with a record of 21-17 and third-place finish in the league.

Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but Brandywine chipped away, scoring four-straight runs to take the lead.

Sean Donahue's (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) RBI single scored Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) with the Lions' first run during the second inning, while Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) added a run-scoring base hit one inning later to make the score 3-2.

The score remained the same until the fifth inning when Brandywine struck for a pair of runs to vault in front. Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) tripled to lead off the inning and scored when Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum) singled, knotting the score at 3-3. Buoni then stole second, moved to third on Reynolds' sacrifice bunt and scored on a one-out double from Wright.

Wilkes-Barre scored three times off Brandywine starter Kevin Sessa (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) on four hits, but Sessa settled down, allowing just two more hits. He struck out two in 5.2 innings and did not receive a decision.

Hurley, Reynolds and Wright all provided two hits for the Lions, who outhit Wilkes-Barre 10-9.

Brandywine closed out its third season under Head Coach Vinny Gallo with 21 victories, the team's highest win total since 2014.
