Fisher Reaches 1,000 Career Points In Victory Over York

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior guard James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) became the sixth men's basketball player in program history to score 1,000 career points on Tuesday night as the Lions battled past Penn State York for their sixth consecutive victory, which came by an 85-66 margin.

Fisher, who needed nine points entering the game, didn't waste any time hitting the 1,000-point mark as he sank three-straight three-point attempts during the contest's opening three minutes, hitting exactly 1,000 points at the 17:00 mark.  A veteran of 72 games at Brandywine, Fisher has averaged 14.1 points per game during his career. He finished the night with 15 points, on 5-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc, including a half court shot that beat the halftime buzzer, along with seven assists and four steals.

Brandywine extended its longest winning streak since the 2005-06 season by forcing the visitors into 25 turnovers and connecting on 12 triples. The Lions have forced at least 21 turnovers during each game of the winning streak. Donte Winfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz), Isaiah Lester (Morton, Pa./Ridley) and Rob Tindley (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) all buried two triples for Brandywine.

Fueled by Fisher's three-pointers, Brandywine stormed out to an 11-2 lead through six minutes. York closed the gap to six at 23-17, but the Lions finished the first half with a 22-6 run, capped by Fisher's half-court heave and brought a 45-23 edge into the break.

York steadily chipped into the deficit, cutting it to 14 points following Richard Grant's dunk at the 11:57 mark; however, Winfield and Terrence Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) had an answer for Brandywine, combining to score 14 of the team's next 23 points as the rout was on once again. The Lions used an 18-6 surge, finalized by a Winfield triple to produce the game's largest lead at 75-49 with 5:48 to play.

Winfield collected 12 points and five assists, while Brown netted 10 points, all in the second half, and grabbed seven boards. Tindley paced the Lions in scoring by netting 16 points.

Overall, Brandywine shot 42 percent from the field and knocked down 11 of its 13 free throws. The Lions committed just 11 turnovers, compared to 25 for York.

Brandywine (6-2, 3-0 PSUAC) hosts Penn State Scranton Friday night for Midnight Madness. The game will begin at midnight.
