Brown Helps Brandywine Bounce Back At Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Terrence Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) poured in a career-high 36 points, leading the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team to an 88-72 Penn State University Athletic Conference victory at Penn State Mont Alto, one day after Brandywine suffered its first conference loss.

Brown's 36-point output was the highest total by a Lion since his current teammate, James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby), netted 38 points at Lycoming on Dec. 29, 2014. In 36 minutes of action, Brown made 15-of-25 field goals and 4-of-5 free throw attempts, while also grabbing 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Twenty-two of Brown's points came during the final 20 minutes.

Mont Alto jumped out to a 13-5 lead, but Brandywine countered with a 17-5 run capped by a Fisher steal and fast-break layup that put the Lions up 22-18 with 10:21 to play in the opening half. The hosts quickly retook the lead before Brown got hot late in the half, scoring five-straight points to push Brandywine in front 36-31.

Quentin Beasley (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) added a triple and Fisher sank two free throws, upping the Lions' edge to eight; however, Mont Alto netted the final nine points of the first half to grab a 42-41 advantage.

Brown's layup during Brandywine's second possession of the second half gave Brandywine the lead, which it would not relinquish the rest of the way. The Lions led by three with 17:57 to play when Dwayne Coleman's (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) bucket started a 10-2 Brandywine surge. Brown converted a three-point play that upped the lead to 59-47 and the Lions led by double figures for nearly the entire remainder of the contest.

Fisher added 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for Brandywine, which shot 44 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers. Donte Winfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) collected 11 points and Beasley added 10 points and five boards, while Coleman chipped in six points and nine rebounds.

Brandywine (9-5, 5-1 PSUAC) looks to close out its road trip on a winning note Monday when the Lions face Penn State Wilkes Barre at 8:00 pm.
