Justin Dunbar-Stevens Tabbed Brandywine Men’s Basketball Coach

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine Director of Athletics Sarah Kurpel announced a new leader of the Lions' men's basketball program on Monday as Justin Dunbar-Stevens was introduced as the team's head coach.

"We're excited to have Coach Dunbar-Stevens join our department to lead the Brandywine men's basketball team. We know that with his commitment to recruiting future Penn State graduates and his experience with student-athlete development, he will be a tremendous addition to our Penn State community," said Kurpel. 

Dunbar-Stevens, the 11th head coach in the 49-year history of the program, inherits a Brandywine team that captured its first-ever Penn State University Athletic Conference championship last season.

"I am very excited for this opportunity to continue the success of the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball program and grow this team in a positive direction," said Dunbar-Stevens.

Since 2016, Dunbar-Stevens served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Eastern University. During his two seasons on the Eagles' bench, the team combined to win 31 games, while reaching the conference tournament in both years. In addition to his on-court coaching duties, Dunbar-Stevens was charged with defensive game-planning, scouting opponents, recruiting and team operations.

Dunbar-Stevens started his collegiate coaching career at Bucks County Community College in 2015-16, where he began his tenure as an assistant coach, the lone assistant on the staff, before being elevated to interim head coach midway through the season. He led the Centurions to an 11-win improvement over the prior season and the team's first postseason appearance in eight years.

A 2012 graduate of Philadelphia University, Dunbar-Stevens earned his bachelor of science degree in graphic design communication. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in business management from Eastern University.

As an undergraduate student at Philadelphia University, Dunbar-Stevens began his coaching career at Central High School in Philadelphia. He spent three seasons as an assistant boys basketball coach, focusing on player development as he saw four of his players accept offers from NCAA institutions to continue their basketball careers.
