Hot-Shooting Rowan Downs Brandywine In Tournament Championship Game

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Rowan University shot over 55 percent from the field and knocked off the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 121-82 in the championship game of the season-opening LaScala's Fire Tournament hosted by the Profs on Friday night.

Rowan made 38-of-69 shots from the field and trekked to the free throw line 40 times, sinking 32 free throws, while Brandywine shot 39 percent from the floor.

R.J. Dixon (Reading, Pa./Reading) topped the Lions in scoring with 14 points. Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) added 13 points and three steals, while Anthony Lattanzi (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) chipped in 10 points.

The Profs steadily pulled away during the first 20 minutes, using a 17-4 run to close the half to build a 23-point edge at the break. Rowan netted the first 16 points of the second half and never looked back, pushing the lead as large as 42 points late in the game.

Brandywine forced 24 Rowan turnovers, but committed 34 of its own. The Profs also held the edge on the boards, outrebounding Brandywine 44-32.

Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter), Qian Boone (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) all pulled down four rebounds to pace the team, while Bobby Heath (Reading, Pa./Reading) handed out a team-best four assists. Coleman was one of five players named to the all-tournament team after recording a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double in a win over Widener Thursday night.

Brandywine (1-1) looks to bounce back Wednesday at Haverford (7:00 PM).
