Brandywine Bounces Back To Top Scranton 97-70

DUNMORE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine rebounded from a mid-week setback as four players reached double-figure scoring in a 97-70 Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball triumph at Penn State Scranton on Friday night.

Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) poured in a career-best 20 points, knocking down 4-of-5 three-point attempts and 8-of-12 shots from the field overall. Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) added 15 points, while Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) and Bobby Heath (Reading, Pa./Reading) both canned two three-pointers and collected 14 points.

Hunt and Heath each handed out a game-best seven assists and grabbed five rebounds, while Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) paced all players with 13 rebounds. Josh Smith (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) snagged eight rebounds, while Isiah Cook (Reading, Pa./Reading) and Barrouk each hauled in seven boards.

Brandywine commanded the glass, outrebounding Scranton 62-38. The Lions also turned the ball over just seven times, a season low, and buried 12 three-pointers.

Brandywine led the game for the first nine minutes, but a 12-5 Scranton spurt put the hosts in front 26-20 with under nine minutes to go in the half. Barrouk's triple at the 8:49 mark started a 10-0 Lions' run, helping to send Brandywine into the break with a three-point cushion at 34-31.

The second-half belonged to the Lions as Brandywine made 23-of-39 shots from the field, including seven three-pointers, and sank 10-of-12 free throw attempts en route to scoring 63 points over the final 20 minutes, a team high for any half this season.

After converting a three-point play, Scranton was within eight midway through the second period, but Persaud's second of four second-half triples opened a 14-0 surge that helped seal the game for the Lions. Persaud poured in nine points during the run, while Barrouk capped it with a triple, making the score 72-50 with eight minutes to go. Eighteen of Persaud's points came during the final 20 minutes.

Brandywine made 46 percent of its shots from the field and yielded 26 percent shooting from Scranton, which attempted 42 shots from beyond the arc, but connected on just six.

Brandywine (4-4, 2-2 PSUAC) is idle until Saturday, Dec. 15 when it travels to Penn State Schuylkill for a 3:00 pm game.
