Brandywine Runs Winning Streak To Five Games With 77-70 Victory

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team saw its winning run reach five games following a 77-70 road victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley on Wednesday night.

The Lions placed four players in double-figure scoring, paced by Bryce Barrouk's (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) 18 points and Andrew Persaud's (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) 17 points. Persaud (5) and Barrouk (4) combined for nine of Brandywine's 14 three-pointers.

Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) added 15 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) contributed 12 points. Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) coupled 10 rebounds with eight points.

Evenly matched through 10 minutes, Brandywine took control with a 10-0 run, capped by a Barrouk triple at the 8:59 mark, giving Brandywine a 32-22 edge. The Lions' advantage swelled to 13 points following Gallagher's layup two minutes later, but Lehigh Valley closed the half with 10 of the final 14 points to trim the deficit to 44-37 at the break.

The hosts opened the second half with an 11-2 spurt to jump in front and maintained their lead through the first 12 minutes of the period. Trailing 59-53 with 8:33 to go, Persaud buried a triple for the Lions, one of four three-pointers during a three-minute span that vaulted Brandywine back in front.

Gallagher and Barrouk both added a three-pointer on consecutive possessions, pushing the lead to 73-65 with 3:12 remaining in regulation.

Lehigh Valley got as close as three points down, but Gallagher canned another triple and Brandywine held Lehigh Valley scoreless for the final 2:17 to hold on for the victory.

Brandywine shot over 48 percent (30-62) from the field and recorded assists on 20-of-30 made baskets to overcome 25 turnovers. The Lions also held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding Lehigh Valley 41-34.

Brandywine (8-4, 4-2 PSUAC) is at home on Saturday when it faces Penn State York at 3:00 pm. Both teams will enter the weekend with 4-2 conference records in a tie for third place in the PSUAC East.
