MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team secured its second-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference home victory, clipping Penn State Fayette 83-71 on Friday night.
The victory, coupled with a Penn State Schuylkill loss, pushed Brandywine (10-6, 6-4 PSUAC) two games in front of Schuylkill for the fourth and final postseason spot from the PSUAC East Division.
Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) keyed the victory, scoring 27 points, his third 20-point game in the last 13 days, and dished out four assists. Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) produced a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) added 15 points. Anthony Lattanzi (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) hauled in seven rebounds and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) handed out six assists.
Brandywine got off to a cold start from the field, but the sharpshooting of Barrouk helped keep the Lions within striking distance. Barrouk accounted for Brandywine's first seven points; however, the Lions trailed 14-7 through nine minutes.
Dean Kane (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) spurred a 10-2 run that put the Lions in front, grabbing a steal and going coast-to-coast for a layup before knocking down the go-ahead triple.
With Brandywine down 22-21, Hunt buried two-straight long-range three-pointers and added a layup, while Kane followed with another triple, sending Brandywine in front 32-22.
Brandywine, which led by nine at the break, allowed Fayette to get as close as six down early in the second period, but back-to-back buckets by Barrouk started a run of nine-straight points for the hosts, helping to put the game out of reach.
Marvin Sidon canned a three-pointer for Fayette to make the score 56-47; however, Josh Smith (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) answered with a basket for Brandywine two possessions later and the Lions would lead by double figures the rest of the way.
Brandywine shot 44 percent from the field and knocked down 18 free throws, compared to just six for Fayette. The Lions also forced 23 Fayette turnovers.
Brandywine will look to win its third-straight game Satuday afternoon when it hosts Penn State Beaver at 3:00 pm.
