Brandywine Continues Winning Ways At DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. -- Six players scored in double figures as the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team won for the fourth time in its last five outings, knocking off Penn State DuBois 94-76 on Friday night.

Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) scored 14 of his team-high 17 points in the second half and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Josh Smith (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) both tallied 16 points. Smith added seven rebounds and Hunt handed out six assists.

Also scoring in double figures for the Lions were Anthony Lattanzi (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Lower Merion), who both poured in 14 points, and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), who netted 13 points.

Brandywine ran out to an early 11-4 lead behind three-pointers from Gallagher, Smith and Hunt, but DuBois rallied to take a 15-14 edge nearly nine minutes into the opening half.

The Lions trailed 26-25 with 5:36 to go in the first, but seized control of the game by ending the period with an 18-0 surge. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) got the run started with a triple and Hunt added four free throws, while Smith registered two baskets and Lattanzi canned a jumper. Smith beat the buzzer with a three-pointer, upping the Lions' advantage to 43-26 at the break.

Brandywine did not let up during the second half, increasing the margin to 22 points on a Lattanzi jumper two minutes into the stanza. After Hunt converted a three-point play, Smith gave the Lions their largest lead of the night, burying a triple to make the score 56-32.

DuBois came as close as 13 down with under eight minutes to play, but Gallagher and Persaud sandwiched three-pointers around a Coleman basket as Brandywine pulled away once again.

Brandywine, which shot 41 percent from the field, scored 36 points off 19 DuBois turnovers. Eighteen of Brandywine's 34 made field goals came from three-point territory. The Lions also collected 22 second-chance points and received 34 points from their reserves.

Brandywine (12-7, 8-5 PSUAC) visits Penn State Greater Allegheny for a 3:00 pm tip-off on Saturday afternoon.
