GA Sinks Brandywine At The Buzzer

MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- A three-pointer from just inside of half court by Koran Fleming as time expired was the game-winner as Penn State Greater Allegheny knocked off Penn State Brandywine 68-65 on Saturday afternoon.

Tied 65-65, George Prota grabbed a rebound off a Brandywine missed three-pointer and found Fleming, who took a couple dribbles before sinking the lengthy buzzer-beater. Brandywine had rallied from six points down with eight minutes to play to tie the game at 65-65 on two Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) free throws with 48 seconds left in the second half.

Brandywine saw its nine-point halftime edge trimmed to two points at 52-50, but Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) buried a triple to keep the Lions in front; however, Greater Allegheny needed just under two minutes to put together an 11-0 surge to vault ahead 61-55.

Brandywine battled back, using a free throw and basket from Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) to cut the deficit in half. After a GA bucket, Hunt knocked down a pair of free throws and then followed with a jumper during the Lions' next possession to get Brandywine within one. Hunt knotted the score at 63-63 with a free throw, but Greater Allegheny knocked down two shots from the charity stripe with one minute to go, moving back in front.

The Lions, who led by as many as 10 points, closed the first half on a 16-4 run to erase a three-point deficit and hold a 43-34 edge at the break.

Gallagher, who netted the final nine points of the Lions' first-half run, scored a team-best 16 points and added seven rebounds and three assists, while Hunt and Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) both collected 12 points.

Coleman produced his second double-double in as many days with 10 points and 14 boards, while Josh Smith (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) was Brandywine's fifth player in double figures, scoring 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Brandywine (12-8, 8-6 PSUAC) plays its final home game of the regular season on Friday night when it hosts Penn State Lehigh Valley for Senior Night at 7:00 pm.
