NEW YORK, N.Y. – Four starters combined for 88 points as the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team earned its first victory Sunday afternoon, upending Berkeley College (N.Y.) 97-90 in New York City.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) knocked down all 10 of his free throw attempts, buried five three-pointers and matched his career high with 29 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Jacob Hunt (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) poured in 25 points and tied Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) for the team lead with six assists, while Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) coupled 20 points with a game-best 14 rebounds for his first double-double. Quentin Beasley (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) shot 6-of-11 from the field, adding 14 points and five assists.

As a team, Brandywine shot nearly 49 percent from the field, canned 12 triples and limited the hosts to 36 percent shooting.

The Lions trailed by as many as 11 points during the first half, but rallied to knot the score at 37-37 on Hunt's three-pointer with 3:37 to go. Gallagher's jumper with 26 ticks left on the first half clock sent Brandywine into intermission with a 41-40 edge.

Brandywine used two triples from Barrouk to push the lead to 59-53 seven minutes into the final period and three minutes later, saw the margin swell to double figures as Hunt completed a three-point play.

Berkeley pulled within four after sinking a layup with 6:53 to play; however, the Lions limited the Knights to one point over the next three minutes and extended the lead back to double figures when Hunt knocked down a jumper at the 3:18 mark.

Five free throws and Barrouk's fifth triple of the game during the final 2:13 helped the Lions even their record at 1-1 this season.

Brandywine will open Penn State University Athletic Conference play on the road Tuesday against Penn State Hazleton at 8:00 pm.
