Trio Powers Lions Past DuBois 93-83

MEDIA, Pa. -- The trio of Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown), Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) and Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) combined for 74 points to lead the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team past Penn State DuBois by a score of 93-83 on Friday night.

Gatewood led all scorers and rebounders with 27 points and 17 boards for his sixth double-double in eight games, while Persaud pumped in a career-best 25 points and Gallagher tallied 22 points, seven assists and four steals. Gallagher and Persaud each knocked down five three-pointers.

Persaud scored 20 of his points during the final 20 minutes, helping Brandywine rally from six points down with 11:37 to go.

The Lions, who led for nearly the entire first half backed by Gatewood's 15 points, saw DuBois rally to take a 63-57 edge with a quick 6-1 spurt capped by a three-pointer from Da'Andre Bateman. Persaud's triple cut the Lions' deficit in half and two minutes later, Gallagher knocked down a long three-pointer to bring Brandywine within two.

Brandywine tied the score at 69-69 on a Gatewood layup and took the lead when Persaud drilled another triple off a Gallagher feed with 8:33 left in regulation.

DuBois knotted the score at 74-74, but Persaud's three-point play with 6:15 changed the momentum of the game, putting Brandywine on top for good. DuBois managed to hang around, but another three-point play converted by Persaud at the 2:18 mark extended the lead to five points and he followed with his final of four second-half three-pointers during the Lions' ensuing possession as the margin swelled to 88-80.

Naifes Smalls (Philadelphia, Pa./PE&T Charter), who chipped in with eight points and seven boards, added a layup and Gallagher sank 3-of-4 shots at the free throw line to secure the game during the final minute.

Brandywine shot 55 percent from the field as a team, knocked down 13-of-23 three-point attempts and held a 42-39 edge on the boards.

The Lions are back at home Saturday afternoon to host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 3:00 pm.
