Brandywine Falls Short At Fayette

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine rallied from 17 points down to tie the score late in the second half, but ultimately could not complete the comeback as the Lions dropped a Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball matchup at Penn State Fayette 81-76 on Friday night.

Facing a 42-25 deficit with 3:34 to play in the first half, Brandywine used a Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) three-pointer and four points from Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) to get within 44-32 at intermission.

Ketquan Gatewood's (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) three-point play, Gallagher's layup and Barrouk's triple during consecutive possessions brought the Lions within six less than five minutes into the second half. Fayette stretched its lead back to 12 points with 12 minutes to go, but three baskets from Quentin Beasley (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), plus another triple from Barrouk during the next four minutes helped the Lions trim the host's edge to just seven.

Barrouk's layup brought the deficit to three and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) followed with a bucket as the Lions climbed to within one at the 6:39 mark. Brandywine finally knotted the score at 68-68 with 4:18 to play, using a Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) triple to cap a string of six-straight points.

However, Tavian Mozie's three-pointer with 2:46 on the clock gave Fayette the lead for good. The hosts moved the lead to six points before Brandywine got within 79-76 on Gallagher's layup with 19 seconds left, but two free throws from Fayette's Dominic Boring provided the final margin.

Brandywine received a team-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting (4-5 3PT) from Barrouk, while Gallagher tallied 19 points, six steals and four assists. Beasley tallied 13 points and Gatewood collected eight points and nine boards.

Fayette connected on 13 of its 21 field goal attempts after the half and shot 60 percent overall. Iman Young misfired just once in 12 shots from the field, producing game highs with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

Brandywine will complete its weekend road trip Saturday at Penn State Beaver (3:00 pm).
