Brandywine Closes Road Trip With 72-62 Triumph

MONACA, Pa. – A 14-0 surge early in the second half was the difference as the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team wrapped up a week-long road trip by defeating Penn State Beaver 72-62 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine found itself trailing 29-28 at the half, but jumped into the lead behind back-to-back baskets from Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) early in the second period.

Leading 32-31, the Lions embarked on their 14-0 surge, holding the hosts without a point for nearly six minutes. Quentin Beasley (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) contributed the first four points of the run at the free throw line before Gallagher tacked on a three-point play. Two Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) free throws stretched the lead to double figures, while Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) capped the spurt with five consecutive points.

Beaver fought back to within 10; however, Brandywine put together another run to put the game out of reach. Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) each knocked down a three-pointer and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) tallied four points during a span of just 1:42, giving the Lions their biggest lead of the game at 57-39 with 7:11 to play.

Gallagher and Barrouk both poured in 17 points, while Beasley notched 16. Barrouk canned three of Brandywine's six three-pointers, while Gallagher pulled in eight rebounds and collected five steals.

Gatewood corralled a team-high 11 rebounds for the Lions, who held a 39-29 edge on the boards.

Brandywine shot 40 percent from the field and scored 22 points off 18 Beaver turnovers. Beaver was limited to 5-for-24 shooting from beyond the arc.

Brandywine is back at home Friday night for an 8:00 pm matchup with Penn State New Kensington.
