Brandywine Drops Final Non-Conference Game At Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) poured in a career-high 36 points, but it was not enough as the University of Valley Forge shot 56 percent from the field to hand the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team a 110-93 loss on Tuesday.

Gallagher shot 13-of-20 from the floor and knocked down six three-pointers to produce Brandywine's highest single-game point total since current assistant coach Terrence Brown recorded a 36-point effort at Penn State Mont Alto in 2018. He added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) tallied 13 points and eight boards, while Andrew Persaud (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) collected 12 points. Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) totaled eight points and 10 boards and Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) chipped in nine points.

Matthew Altimirano paced six Patriots in double-figure scoring with 30 points.

Valley Forge used a 17-3 surge spanning just under six minutes to build a 36-17 first-half edge. Brandywine trimmed the deficit to 13 points on three occasions, including a jumper from Gallagher, the final two of his 17 first-half points, that made the count 53-40 at the break.

UVF continued its hot shooting during the second period, making 23-of-37 field goal attempts during the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Lions.

Brandywine faced a deficit as large as 27 points with 12:20 to go, but cut the Patriots' lead to 14 points nine minutes later following seven-straight points from Gallagher; however, Valley Forge answered with three baskets in a 43-second span to ended the Lions' threat.

Brandywine (5-17, 5-11 PSUAC) will host Penn State Scranton Saturday for Senior Day beginning at 3:00 pm.
