Gatewood Scores 1,000th College Point In Season-Ending Setback

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Junior Ketquan Gatewood (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) recorded the 1,000th point of his collegiate career, but the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was defeated by Penn State Mont Alto 90-81 on Friday night during its season finale.

Gatewood scored 630 points at Delaware County Community College prior to joining Brandywine, where he has tallied 382 points this winter, including a 20-point, 14-rebound performance on Friday night. He hit the 1,000-point mark with a free throw at the 5:00 mark of the first half, his eighth point of the evening.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) tallied 12 points and Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) chipped in 11. Gallagher finished his four-year career with 843 points after scoring 445 markers this winter.

Mont Alto owned a seven-point edge at halftime and opened up a 16-point lead with 12:15 to play.

Brandywine battled back against the top team in the PSUAC, narrowing the margin to six following back-to-back baskets from Gallagher, capping a 12-2 surge.

The hosts answered with five-straight points and maintained a double-figure advantage until the final minute. Barrouk buried a triple and Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) converted a three-point play to trim the deficit to 83-76 with 57 seconds left, but Mont Alto knocked down seven-of-eight free throws during the final minute to secure the victory.

Brandywine shot 42 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers, but made just 14-of-24 free throws. Mont Alto placed four players in double figures, paced by JR Powe's 21 points, and held a 53-34 rebounding advantage.
