Mont Alto Upends Brandywine In Finale
MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State Mont Alto pulled away with a 76-53 victory over the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team during the regular-season finale for both teams on Thursday night.
Brandywine got off to a slow start, trailing 24-11 through 13 minutes, but rallied to get within five by halftime. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) scored five points, while Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) sank a layup as the Lions outscored Mont Alto 7-0 during the final 1:13 of the period to slice the deficit to 32-27.
Hockenbrock scored four-straight points for the Lions as Brandywine was within seven with 14:36 to play, but just over a minute later, two free throws from Nathan Osei increased Mont Alto's lead to double figures.
Brandywine closed the margin to eight points twice during the next six minutes; however, Mont Alto pulled away by limiting the Lions to just two points during the final 6:43.
Hockenbrock poured in 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Barrouk shot 6-for-9, scoring 14 points, along with a team-high nine rebounds. Hockenbrock also collected three steals, while Vince Zulli (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added eight points and three steals.
Brandywine shot 32 percent from the field, while Mont Alto recorded 37 percent shooting. The hosts outrebounded Brandywine 51-38 and made 22-of-25 free throws.
Brandywine (13-17, 11-8 PSUAC) will host Penn State Lehigh Valley in a PSUAC Tournament first round game on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
