Brandywine Sits 17th After Opening Round Of USCAA/PSUAC Golf Championships

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine stands in 17th place at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championship, while ranking seventh among Penn State University Athletic Conference squads following the first 18 holes played on Monday afternoon at Penn State University's White Course.

The Lions, who are competing at the championships for the first time since 2013, compiled a four-man team score of 348 on Monday. Cleary University (Mich.) leads the USCAA Championship with a team total of 298, while Penn State DuBois tops the PSUAC Championship after totaling 315 strokes. The PSUAC and USCAA Championships are run simultaneously each year on Penn State's University Park campus.

Brandywine posted an 11-stroke improvement compared to the team's first round on Penn State's White Course this season when the Lions competed at the PSUAC Invitational on Sept. 25.

Individually, Brad Dawson (Southern Pines, N.C./Pinecrest) led Brandywine by carding an opening-round 82. Dawson is tied for 46th in the 102-man field.

Kyle North (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) opened his championship play by recording a round of 85, while Connor Sadoff (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) shot 89. Shane Freeman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Archbishop Wood) tallied 92 strokes.

Evan Fahs of Penn State Lehigh Valley is the individual leader after he carded a two-under-par 70.

The championships conclude on Tuesday with the final18 holes beginning at 9:00 am.
