Two Brandywine Pairs Earn Medals At Lehigh Valley Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine golf team wrapped up its regular season at the Penn State Lehigh Valley Invitational, a Ryder Cup style event consisting of seven Penn State University Athletic Conference teams, on Tuesday afternoon at Riverview Country Club.

Six Brandywine golfers teamed with student-athletes from Penn State Fayette and Penn State Hazleton to defeat golfers from Penn State Lehigh Valley, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State Scranton and Penn State York by a count of 15-13.

The day's 18 holes were split into three formats of six holes each. The first six holes played were alternate shot, while the next six were better ball. The final six holes were head-to-head single matches.

Brandywine golfers claimed first place in two of the three flights. From Flight B, Zachary Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Patrick Farrell (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) combined to claimed 13.5 of a possible 24 points. The duo earned four points during alternate shot and two more during the better ball portion, while Karlton posted four points in his head-to-head match and Farrell recorded 3.5.

In Flight C, Margaret Reynolds (West Chester, Pa./Westtown School) and Jack Bell (Chichester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) recorded 22 points. The team won all 12 holes during the alternate shot and better ball portions. Reynolds also claimed all six holes of her head-to-head match and Bell picked up four points during his head-to-head bout.

From Flight A, Colin Shane (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Alex Barone (Glenolden, Pa./Concord) dropped a narrow 12.5-11.5 decision to Lehigh Valley's Nick Herman. The duo did pick up two points for the team of Brandywine, Fayette and Hazleton after splitting alternate shot and a head-to-head match and winning the second head-to-head match. Highlighting the day for Shane was a 110-yard bunker shot that he landed in the hole on one bounce at the par-five third, giving him an eagle.

Brandywine will be in State College for the PSUAC/USCAA Championships on May 10-11. Both rounds will be played on Penn State's Blue Course.
