Brandywine Opens Season With Fourth-Place Showing In State College

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's golf team, highlighted by a round of 75 from Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), claimed fourth place at the season-opening Penn State University Athletic Conference Invitational at Penn State's White Course on Thursday afternoon.

Karlton's 75 matched a Brandywine record-low round held by Pat Farrell since 2021. He finished seventh in a field of 67 golfers.

As a team, Brandywine totaled a four-man score of 311 to claim fourth place among the 10 teams in attendance. The Lions were 10 shots off the pace of Penn State York, the team champions, while York's Andy Manges and Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Josh Brown tied for medalist honors by shooting rounds of 71.

Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) completed his round in 78 strokes, while Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Brady Foytack (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) shot identical rounds of 79.

Nathan Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) produced a round of 87 and Jared Morris (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) rounded out the Lions by shooting 88.

Brandywine is back in action Monday at the Albright Invitational beginning at 9:30 AM.
