Brandywine Opens Play At USCAA/PSUAC Championships

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine golf team ranks 11th following the first day of the 36-hole Penn State University Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, which run simultaneously, at Penn State University's Blue Course.

The Lions finished the day with a team score of 337. Lyon College leads the 18th-team USCAA pack following an opening-round 301, while Penn State Hazleton topped the nine-squad PSUAC field with 306 first round strokes.

Aided by three birdies, including two on the back nine, Brady Foytack (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) led the Lions with a round of 82. He sits in a tie for 42nd in the 108-player field.

Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) carded matching rounds of 84. Both Lions produced a pair of birdies during their respective rounds.

Nathan Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) totaled 87 strokes, while Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) finished his first round with 88 shots. Jared Morris (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) completed the opening round by shooting 108.

Luke Cochran of Johnson & Wales-Charlotte is the individual leader in the clubhouse following his one-under-par 71, while Penn State Mont Alto's Ryan Small paced the PSUAC field by carding a round of 73.

The second and final round of the PSUAC/USCAA Championships begins Tuesday at 9:00 AM.
