VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team dropped an 8-0 decision to Bryant & Stratton College (N.Y.) during its first game of pool play at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
The Bobcats (11-1) netted six goals during the opening 45 minutes and tacked on two more during the second half. Bryant & Stratton can clinch a spot in the semifinal round with a win Friday.
Joe Opdenaker (Lenni, Pa./The Christian Academy) stopped a pair of shots in the first half, while Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) made four saves for Brandywine during the final stanza.
Brandywine was limited to four shot attempts, all in the second half. Brad Jule (Chadds Ford, Pa./Salesianum) collected the Lions' lone attempt on goal.
Bryant & Stratton, a program with scholarship athletes from 13 different countries, recorded 14 shots on goal and received three goals from Matthew LeRoux.
Brandywine (15-3) will face Maine-Machias on Saturday at 2:00 pm in its second Pool B game.
