Men’s Soccer Freshmen Earn National Awards From USCAA

MEDIA, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine freshmen claimed player of the week honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday as Chris Riebman (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) was named national player of the week and Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) claimed national goalkeeper of the week.

The Lions won their lone game last week by a 2-1 score over Gwynedd Mercy behind a goal from Riebman and seven saves by Welden.

Riebman's goal, his second of the season, came during the 49th minute and proved to be the game-winner. His two goals and four total points lead the team through three matches this fall.

All seven of Welden's stops came during the second half against the Griffins, including five during the final 10 minutes of the match. Welden has been the winning goalkeeper in both of Brandywine's victories as he also turned away eight shots in a 2-1 triumph at Pitt-Greensburg on Sept. 2.

Brandywine (2-1) is back in action on Wednesday afternoon against Delaware Valley at 4:00 pm.
