Brandywine Downed In Final Minutes By Delaware Valley

MEDIA, Pa. -- The match appeared destined for overtime; however, Delaware Valley found the game-winning goal with under three minutes to play in regulation and topped the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team 1-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Lions (2-2) suffered the setback despite recording 12 shots on goal, while surrendering just five to the Aggies.

Brandywine had numerous opportunities to score, recording six shots during each half, plus one more off the foot of Jack Sweeney (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) that rang off the cross bar during the 27th minute. Sweeney matched Chris Riebman (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) with a team-high three shots on net.

Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) stopped four of the five shots he faced, but suffered the loss in net. Connor Hedgepeth turned away 12 shots for Delaware Valley.

The Aggies' score came from Nick Gaetano on a long strike after Brandywine failed to clear a Delaware Valley corner kick with 2:40 remaining in regulation.

Brandywine looks to bounce back Saturday night under the lights at Bryn Athyn (7:00 pm).
