Lions Top Williamson 7-1 To End Regular Season

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team closed out its regular season by winning for the 10th-straight outing, topping Williamson College of the Trades 7-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Lions, who ended the regular season with a 14-3 overall record and unblemished 9-0 ledger in conference play, will now set their sights on winning a fourth Penn State University Athletic Conference title in the last five seasons. As the No. 1 overall seed for the fifth consecutive year, Brandywine will host a semifinal match on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon.

"This was a nice way for us to end the regular season. I was really happy with how well we finished in the second half. Now we must lock in for the next week at practice as we prepare for the postseason," said Head Coach  Jesse Zafiratos.

Brandywine received goals from four different scorers on Friday as Chris Riebman (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) found the back of the net three times during the second half, Nate Truett (St. Thomas, Pa./James Buchanan) netted a pair of goals, and both Mohamed Camara (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) and Mike Usher (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added one goal.

Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) and Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) split time in net with each playing 45 minutes. Scott-Norris made one stop during the first half, while Welden blocked a pair of shots in the final stanza.

Less than two minutes separated Truett's pair of scores as he headed in a long Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) throw in just 3:43 into the match and then connected on a free kick at the 5:37 mark.

After taking a 2-1 edge into the half, Brandywine errupted for five goals during the final 45 minutes.

Camara ripped a shot from the right side of the box that snuck in under the crossbar to extend the lead to 3-1. Riebman then netted three-straight goals over the next 20 minutes before Usher capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

Brandywine held a 26-7 edge in shots and attempted nine of the match's 10 corner kicks.
