Fall Teams Headed To State College For PSUAC Championships

MEDIA, Pa. -- Three of Penn State Brandywine's fall teams will head to State College on Tuesday and Wednesday for their respective Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships as the men's and women's soccer teams will aim to defend their titles, while the volleyball team looks for its second championship during the last three years.

All three of Brandywine's teams earned the top seed in the tournaments as each is unbeaten in conference play. Brandywine men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball have combined for a 33-0 mark against the PSUAC this fall.

The volleyball team will be first to compete in its championship match on Tuesday night inside Rec Hall at 7:00 pm. The Lions, winners of 18-straight matches, advanced to the title game following a 3-0 victory over Penn State DuBois Saturday on their home court during the semifinals.

Brandywine (24-2) will meet Penn State Fayette in the championship match for fourth time in the last five years. The Lions won the most recent championship meeting between the teams in 2015, capturing their first-ever conference title, and also swept Fayette when the teams met at Brandywine this season on Oct. 1.

The following night, the men's and women's soccer teams will play for their championships on the West Campus Turf Field. Women's soccer battles No. 2 Penn State Schuylkill at 4:00 pm, while the men's game against No. 3 Hazleton will follow at 6:00 pm.

Women's soccer, which won the PSUAC title last season in its second year as a varsity team, posted a 9-1-1 record during the regular season, including a 6-0 mark against the PSUAC. The Lions bested Schuylkill twice, winning on the road 4-0, before topping Schuylkill 3-2 in double overtime on Oct. 16.

Brandywine has won all seven meetings with Schuylkill during the last three years with the Lions posting shutouts in five of those games. Wednesday's game will be a rematch of the 2016 title game, won 1-0 by Brandywine.

The men's soccer championship game will also be a rematch of 2016 championship which Brandywine claimed by a 1-0 score in State College. Brandywine, winner of 11-straight matches overall and 21 consecutive PSUAC matches, brings a 15-3 record into the championship, while Hazleton is 10-8 (6-3 PSUAC).

Following a 24-year championship drought, Brandywine has won three of the last four PSUAC men's soccer crowns, posting a 51-2-1 record against the conference during that time. All 10 of the Lions' matches versus PSUAC opponents this season were decided by at least three goals, including a 5-0 victory over New Kensington on Saturday that pushed Brandywine into the title game. The Lions also ran away with a 5-1 home triumph over Hazleton earlier this fall.
