Lions Drop Season Finale 3-1 To Johnson & Wales

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Despite playing one man up, Penn State Brandywine surrendered a pair of second-half goals and dropped its men's soccer season finale to Johnson & Wales 3-1 at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The teams were scoreless for over 30 minutes during the first half before each squad got on the board during the final 15 minutes of the stanza. USCAA Player of the Year Jalen Jackson netted the game's first goal to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0, but Brandywine quickly countered six minutes later.

A long free kick by James Cellucci (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) bounced around before finding the head of Daniel Willie (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby), who deposited his fourth goal of the season.

The teams entered halftime squared at 1-1 with J&W, which recorded a 4-0 victory over Brandywine earlier in the season, holding an 11-8 edge in shots.

The Wildcats quickly found the go-ahead goal, scoring just 18 seconds into the second stanza. Jason Rosales added an insurance goal with under 10 minutes remaining to provide the final margin.

Playing in his final game at Brandywine, goalkeeper Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) registered eight saves, while J&W net minder Kennedy Little made a pair of stops.

Johnson & Wales held a 20-14 edge in shot attempts, while Brandywine tallied nine of the match's 12 corner kicks.

Brandywine, which won the PSUAC title for the fourth time in five seasons, finished the year with a record of 16-5 under second-year Head Coach Jesse Zafiratos.
