Welden Lands USCAA Goalkeeper Of The Week Award

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After setting a career high in saves on Saturday during the team's season opener, Penn State Brandywine sophomore Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) was selected as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Week.

Welden stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced against Manor College as Brandywine earned a 2-2 draw. He preserved the tie by blocking seven shots in the final 45 minutes of regulation and one during the 20 minutes of overtime.

Welden, who earned the second goalkeeper of the week award of his career, claimed his first victory of the year on Tuesday night, rejecting four of the five shots he faced in a 5-1 rout at Gwynedd Mercy.

In 14 career appearances, Welden owns a 6-1-1 career record and 1.08 goals-against average. He played in 12 matches during Brandywine's run to its second-straight PSUAC championship in 2017 as a freshman, including five starts.

Brandywine (1-0-1) hosts Immaculata Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
