Brandywine Blanks Saint Vincent 2-0; Continues Long Shutout Streak

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout of Saint Vincent College on Friday afternoon, giving the Lions five-straight shutout victories and 10 consecutive wins overall.

Brandywine's pair of goalkeepers, Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) and Jared Sebzda (Warminster, Pa./William Tennett) have combined to blank opponents for 526 consecutive minutes dating back to Sept. 29. The Lions' netminders have not surrendered a goal in four matches during the month of October and have yieled just one score during Brandywine's current 10-game winning streak.

Welden played all 90 minutes in net Friday, stopping three shots during each half to collect his fourth shutout of the year.

"I'm happy with the overall effort from our guys today. We hadn't played a game in 12 days, but still looked sharp," said Head Coach Jesse Zafiratos.

Brandon Crochunis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Daniel Willie (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby), the team's top two scorers, delivered the goals for Brandywine.

Crochunis took a pass from Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and sent a hard strike under the crossbar for the match's first score at the 18:38 mark.

The score remained the same until the 78th minute when a pass from Ian Roland (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) was misplayed by the Bearcats' goalkeeper on the goal line and Willie was there to tap in an insurance goal for the Lions.

Brandywine outshot Saint Vincent 15-11 and put seven shots on target, compared to six for the visitors.

Brandywine (12-2-2, 9-0 PSUAC) closes out the regular season on Tuesday at home against Berkeley College (N.J.) at 3:00 PM.
