Brandywine Men’s Soccer Pair Lands Player Of The Week Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine freshmen were selected as Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer players of the week as Juan Guerrero (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) was named goalkeeper of the week and Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) was selected as the offensive player of the week. Ayllon-Ortiz was also lauded as the player of the week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Ayllon-Ortiz boasted three goals and one assist in two Brandywine wins last week. He tallied five points by netting two goals and adding an assist during a 8-0 triumph at Penn State Hazleton. On Saturday, Ayllon-Ortiz tallied the biggest goal of the season thus far for the Lions, connecting on a second-half penalty kick as Brandywine topped Penn State Beaver 1-0 in a battle for first place in the PSUAC.

Ayllon-Ortiz ranks second in the PSUAC with eight assists and third with 24 points this fall. His eight goals are tied for the team lead and are fifth-most in the conference. Now a three-time player of the week this season, he has registered at least one point during eight of the team's last nine matches.

Guerrero added two more shutouts to his ledger, giving him six, while playing in 14 of the team's matches. He needed to make a total of three saves last week, all against Penn State Beaver, to record his shutouts.

Guerrero has not yielded a goal since Sept. 19 as he has held opponents scoreless in seven-straight appearances, a span of more than 653 minutes. In addition to leading the league in shutouts, he tops all players with nine wins and a 1.28 goals-against average.

Brandywine (13-4-1, 8-0 PSUAC) faces Penn State Lehigh Valley in its final conference match of the season Wednesday at 1:30 pm.
