Brandywine Stops Washington Adventist For Third-Straight Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team earned its third-straight win and remained unbeaten on the season following a 2-0 victory over Washington Adventist University on Sunday afternoon.

Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) came up with five saves to record his second shutout of the season. He stopped a Washington Adventist penalty kick with under 30 seconds to play during the opening half to preserve the Lions' one-goal lead, one of four first-half stops he made.

The teams were scoreless for more than 30 minutes before Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) put the Lions on top off a feed from Khafren Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) during the 35th minute.

Brandywine doubled its lead at the 59:12 mark. Ethan Simpson (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) fired a shot that was turned away by Shock goalkeeper Shawn McGuire, but Jayden Barragan (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) found the rebound and tapped a shot just inside the far post to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

DeBooth needed to stop just one more shot the rest of the way, his only save of the second half, to earn the victory.

Brandywine put six shots on goal and recorded five of the match's seven corner kicks to up its unbeaten streak at home to 21-straight matches.

Brandywine (5-0-2) has a quick turnaround as the Lions visit Gwynedd Mercy Monday at 4:00 PM.
